The programs use the mathematics of elliptic curves in the finite Galois Field GF(2^255) for cryptography. The cryptography is asymmetric, that is it is a Public/Private key system. Public Domain Source C++ code is available from George Barwood on the Internet for cryptographic analyses. Key generation, distribution and management functions are automatic. The products are encrypted attachments that may be attached to e-mail messages for transmission and a secure filing system. Double Cipher Block Chaining with two random initialization variables is performed.
This system can be installed from any directory except the root directory. Execute the downloaded self extracting exe file in the directory where it was received. All files are placed in the root directory and deleted from the installation directory. If the down load was to the windows desktop, installation may be accomplished by clicking on the web icon. The application is started by double clicking the Net-Shield or 0valtine Icon which are placed on your desktop. Click on the Holt Coat of Arms for further information.
Facilities are provided which allow secret messages to be read, secure attachments to be generated, for messages to be filed in various folders , and for messages to be deleted. A display window generally indicates what operations can be performed. The routine is controlled by indicated key letters being typed or the desired operation being clicked on by the mouse. Textual data is typed on the keyboard. Deleted messages from any folder except C:\TRASH are placed in the C:\TRASH folder. Net-Shield offers the additional functions of secure forwarding, processing previously typed messages and binary file transfers. Files are transferred under the name specified when the attachment is created. Upon receipt, they are stored under that name if that name does not already exist on the destination disk. If the file already exists, the first character is changed to a tilde (~) and the file stored under that name.
Simply click on the Uninstall Icon, the Shield that is Red X'd. All files initially installed by the system will be removed.
